What are college sports? College sports or college athletics is in general related primarily to sports and athletic competitions that are organized and funded by institutions of tertiary education. Now, in the domain of the United States of America the saga of college sports or college athletics happens to be a two-tiered system. In the first tier there is the presence of sports that are sanctioned by one of the collegiate sport governing bodies. The major sanctioning organizations in this sphere are the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NCIA) and also the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Apart from this the first tier is also characterized by the notion of selective participation. It is entirely due to the fact, only the elite athletes in theirs sport are able to participate.
